CALAT is committed to ensuring the health and safety of all learners and staff, therefore delivery methods* of courses will be using blended learning techniques complying with government guidelines for social distancing in relation to Covid 19.

This may mean that your course content could be totally online or a combination of both classroom and online delivery. Initial assessments and enrolments will also be online or processed over the telephone using an online payment app.

*It is important to note, with such a fast moving situation, any delivery may be subject to change and updated in accordance with government guidelines in relation to Covid 19.

Would you like to improve your English? CALAT offers courses in ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) for people who are settled in the UK, want to improve their English language skills, and gain nationally recognised qualifications.

Our qualified teachers will help you with your English for everyday life, you will study in a friendly, safe environment, meet new friends, gain confidence and learn employability skills.

We offer classes for:

  • Pre-entry (beginners)*
  • Entry 1*, Entry 2* and Entry 3*
  • Level 1* and Level 2*
  • Functional Skills Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2

To register you will need an email address. 


ESOL classes are free for asylum seekers, learners seeking employment and receiving Job Seekers Allowance (JSA), ESA (WRAG) or other means-tested benefits. ESOL classes are also free for those living in London boroughs who are working and earning below £20,962 gross per year.

For those living outside the London boroughs, classes are free for those earning less than £17,004 gross per year.

We also offer a substantial discount on our fees for those with household income less than £27,000.

In some cases, we are also able to help with childcare costs.

All learners are assessed and advised online before they join a course. Please have your passport or ID Card, proof of benefit (if applicable) or payslips and National Insurance Number ready to show online, if asked for.
