Fairfield Halls is about to enter the next stage of its £30m transformation.
As the first phase of refurbishment draws to a close, Croydon Council’s development company, Brick by Brick, has engaged Vinci Construction UK to take the venue through the next leg of its exciting journey to completion in 2018.
Since the venue closed last summer, Brick by Brick has had contractors on site carrying out enabling works to prepare the building for the main structural works.
Over the past 10 months, extensive work has taken place behind the hoardings, including detailed surveys, ground investigations, asbestos removal and the stripping of loose fixtures and fittings, such as flooring, ceilings and soft furnishings.
With these enabling works now entering the final stages, Fairfield Halls is ready for its redesign. Vinci Construction UK will arrive on site this month (May), remaining until the venue reopens at the end of 2018.
Vinci Construction UK was appointed for the Fairfield Halls refurbishment following a competitive tendering process which started in April. A national construction and facilities company, Vinci Construction UK is the largest British subsidiary of building company Vinci. The UK arm has strong relationships with other Vinci companies and subsidiaries and, as a result, can leverage ideas, skills and entrepreneurial flair, delivering top-quality work in all sectors.
Vinci Construction UK has worked on several major developments in the borough, including Croydon’s tallest tower, Altitude 25, Fairfield Road and The Ashburton Learning Village, Shirley Road.
Shifa Mustafa, executive director for the council’s place directorate, said: “This is a really exciting time. We are delighted Brick by Brick has taken Vinci Construction UK on board to bring Fairfield Halls on the next stage of its journey through to completion of the refurbishment in 2018. Vinci has a strong track record in delivering projects of this magnitude and the skills to ensure that the end result is exceptional.”
Jason Griffiths, regional director, Vinci Construction UK, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be appointed on this prestige project at Fairfield Halls, Croydon, and look forward to delivering a first-class restoration project with the client and their wider team.”
Also this month, the council is set to sign contracts with BHLive, the preferred operator to run Fairfield Halls when it reopens.
Ms Mustafa added: “The timing has enabled us to ensure that the operator and refurbishment contractor are able to get together at the earliest opportunity to influence and strengthen aspects of the design.”
